Melody of Youth On-Air Press Conference

A fan friend saw this post and got curious about what happened. So, she found the interview video and shared with me. Let me share my translation of the weibo post and then part of the interview.

At the press conference of "Melody of the Youth", (when asked about his previous work) he asked the reporter not to ask irrelevant questions, so that the reporter wrote "he has low EQ and won't be popular" in the article afterward. But YY's tone was, in fact, very calm, and his request was completely legitimate, showing how dedicated he was to his profession. The reporter was not being fair to him. After YY became popular, he was the only one in "Divas on the road 2" who kept in touch with Sister Jing, and the only person who greeted fans exclusively in many large events. This invaluable quality simply defies human nature. In the entertainment world where most people like to please the high power and despise the less famous, he shines like the sun. When he appears, other stars can only dim.

He came out around 6:15 to introduce his role in this drama. Then, after everybody else took turn to introduce their roles, it was open for questions from the media.

The first question for YY was around 26:20.

reporter: This is the first time you (YY) and Jiang Mengjie worked together again after the "Dream of Red Mansions". There were a lot of "voices/comments" after the first showing of the "Dream of Red Mansions", and now it will be showing again on XXX channel. Is there anything you want to say about this?
YY: Today is the event for the drama "Melody of the Youth", so let's focus on talking about "Melody of the Youth". (He then gave a brief description about his role. But I thought he already introduced his role when he first came out. The question made me feel that the reporter was not paying attention previously.)

The second question came at the very end, around 33:55. It was a request from a reporter after the MC said "that's it for today...."

MC: "ok, let's hurry up!"
reporter: I want to ask YY... Did director Li Shaohong (the direction of "Dream of the Red Mansions") chose this drama project for you?
YY: What you think?
reporter: I'm asking you...
YY: What do you think?
reporter: I think.... why do you keep asking me?
YY: So, what you think? Do you think Director would do that?
reporter: I think it's possible that you would ask of her opinion.

YY (continued): We'll talk about it in the future. Yes (agreeing to what Jiang Mengjie said).
I honestly had no idea what the journalist was trying to do. But the questions she raise were really not very professional.

I think that was the less mature, teenager YY, which, in my opinion, was a very real person. He might not be so well-rounded at that time (in handling unprofessional questions from the reporters), but we can see that he was a person of character since the very beginning. And I believe he is still the same now, except that he can probably handle such questions better now. There are actually many nice comments in the weibo post shared above.
