TIA Producer Wang Yu-Ren talked about Yang Yang and Hang Li
MC: During the period when choosing the main lead for TIA, there were lots of speculations. Regarding a big IP like this, people had both concerns and an urge to try. How did you feel back then when facing all kinds of speculations and expectations from everybody?
Wang: For me… actually, we have been giving deep thoughts about this story for a long time, since 2017 till the animation version in 2020 and then to the live adaptation drama version in 2023. As a long-time fan of the original work, we have much more understanding of the character. It was like looking at a relative of ours. When we saw how deeply actor Yang Yang was immersed in this role, to the point that he himself said, "The more I watch, the more I feel I see myself in this character," we knew, “Bingo! This is a good match!” Then, when we actually entered the filming stage, this feeling became clearer and clearer, especially when you see his action scenes and his many thoughts on the characters. I think that sometimes good actors and good IPs can complement each other and are a perfect match made in heaven.
Translation of the 2nd video
MC: We chatted a lot about the degree of compatibility between the role of Han Li and Yang Yang. We talked about how you felt when you first met him, and how you felt about the project, as the main IP creator who understands the long-time fan of the original work the most. I’d like to know, when the drama got broadcasted and everybody saw the completed work and all the effects, what do you think were the things that complemented each other and help Han Li and Yang Yang move forward together?
Wang: Actually, during the entire period from the production of the TIA drama to post-production and before it aired, as his friend, I think he really went through a lot. During the process, he also demonstrated a tenacity and resilience rarely seen among his peers (in this industry). I think this actually aligns very well with Han Li's qualities as the protagonist of TIA: his forbearance, hard work, and dedication to doing his job well. So, even though I dare not say for him that this was “the role of his life,” I think that at least in the process of playing the role of Han Li, Yang Yang, as an actor, should actually be very happy. As the main creators, after accompanying him (Yang Yang) completed Han Li’s first cultivation journey together, we felt a strong connection between the character and the current state of mind. Many young people today face similar situations: they are not easily recognized, and their efforts don't always yield immediate results. Yet, they persevere in pursuing their dreams, regardless of the obstacles they encounter. I believe this spirit of ordinary people, this step-by-step approach, is a much-needed source of inspiration in our society, the drama industry, or the arts and literature industry. Therefore, from this perspective, we felt very honored that we could complete this project with him.
