YY's comment on Zhang Qiling's "fewer expressions" setting
(White text going vertically down on the left)
YY himself never said Zhang Qiling is a facial paralysis.
(In the orange block)
MC asked:
Have you ever feel troubled when a character’s nature was “fewer expressions”?
MC’s lines:
But when you really got this role
The difficulty in acting was like what you just said
Zhang Qiling did not have a lot of expressions
But I thought as an actor
(performance of) expressions is an important way to show your skills
How did you act without expression? Did that bother you at that time?
(in the blue block)
YY answered:
I did worry about part of the viewers feeling “fewer expressions” equals facial paralysis, and I was once confused, too. But at the end I still decided to respect the “fewer expressions” setting in the original novel, and tried to restore the original work this way.
YY’s lines:
At that time, I was also a bit confused.
Because during the process of acting
Everybody had their own thoughts about expressions and so on
Yes, I always immersed myself in my own world
and I’d also think “hey, if I act this way…
wouldn’t it become facial paralysis, wouldn’t it be to pretentious/fake?
But when I had such thoughts
I’d go back to read and recall the character described in the book
and I’d feel what I did was right
